Maelstrom

rolling elbow, sharp of enemy,

quick spark at the chip of scattered

chapbooks, polygon pages, letters

dissipate after swirlings toward

the bulb over a forehead blinking,

accidental eel in the belly of a whale

hiding in flowerless vases, vaseless 

smells, lethargy gills, I dive out 

of the window, swallow the waves 

in my curtain, scan codes on stone, 

hold the dunes before I drown
