Man In The Next Room by Matt St. Amand

For weeks I grudgingly
listened to his television blare,
to his muttering, singing, sighing
trying to articulate some elusive something
to no one.

Recently he’s found a harmonica
& seems to have found
what he has sought to say
having no idea
that he now has
an attentive audience.

pwede bang mag-ingles dito?

so.

anyway, i just dropped by to tell you that i find your writing superb. i seldom stumble upon blogs such as this one, and i tell you, you're really good. :-D very unique and down-to-earth and creative and sense-shattering. haha. btw. i was wondering if you've ever tried the palanca?

keep writing keith (is this your real name?). we need more poets like you.

gukda ang aliluyok

tanan nga mosuyop
ug modagit kanimo
ilawom sa anino
sa imong laraw.

thank you so much keith :-)

well, it's good that during those six years of lingering around, you've finally found that blaze that will burn in perpetuity, so never let go of it. i have yet to becomes vibrant and alive, everything we see around us is a haiku or a sonnet in disguise, it's just a matter of finding the most beautiful way of uncovering it, which is, really, what i notice in your writing. so sulat lang ng sulat. in fact i do envy you, you say you can't stop writing, five poems a day, etc., i think poetry has become so much a part of you already. i envy your passion.

anyway, i likewise appreciate your heartwarming words. it really inspires me to pursue art, which unfortunately, i have shoved in a dark corner for quite a while now. thanks for the dose of inspiration.

and about my poem, i guess the only way to truly appreciate it is to learn the language. i don't know, i can't seem to translate it without risking the loss of its essence. some thing do tend to get lost in translation. hehe. i'll just lead you to that last part of the poem:

"angkona ang adlaw"

it means, "claim the sun".

you do it, keith. :-)

well, it's good that during those six years of lingering around, you've finally found that blaze that will burn in perpetuity, so never let go of it. i have yet to find mine. you just keep that flame burning. you do have a way of extracting the art and poetry out of the simplest things, which is what really amazes me. it's like what you once said in poetry and poets, "poetry is life". everything becomes vibrant and alive, everything we see around us is a haiku or a sonnet in disguise, it's just a matter of finding the most beautiful way of uncovering it, which is, really, what i notice in your writing. so sulat lang ng sulat. in fact i do envy you, you say you can't stop writing, five poems a day, etc., i think poetry has become so much a part of you already. i envy your passion.

it's in the cebuano language, keith.

actually, it's just a very simple poem. nothing exceptional, really. the words just sort of sprang all of a sudden in my mind as i was writing my comment. you'll have no problem deciphering it. :-)
